Both are recognized as highly nutritious berries: the vitamin C content of the thorn pear is over 2500mg/100g, 50 times that oflemon and 10 times that of kiwi; Sea buckthorn is also rich in vitamin C, combined with abundant sea buckthorn flavonoids andorganic acids. But both have a common storage shortcoming for their core nutrients : vitamin C is a strong reducing substance and highlysensitive to oxygen . II. Limitations of existing solutions in the industry
Option 1:
Aluminum-coated PET (VMPET) high barrier scheme, typically PE/VMPET/PE+PE. Compared with the EVOH solution, it does nothave a separate ultra-high barrier functional layer, but relies on a vacuum aluminum-coated layer on the surface of the PETsubstrate to block oxygen. It is simpler in structure, more mature in process, and lower in cost, thus becoming the default choicefor most juice packaging.
The OTR (Oxygen transmission rate) of this scheme is typically around 1 . The value may seem low, but it brings a long-term,cumulative hidden risk: throughout the shelf life (especially at room temperature or during outdoor storage and transportation),oxygen continues to pass through the membrane layer at a steady rate into the bag and undergoes a slow and irreversibleoxidation reaction with the active ingredients in the contents.
For highly sensitive juices like thorn pear juice and sea buckthorn juice, which are rich in strong antioxidant active ingredientssuch as vitamin C, SOD, and polyphenols, the consequences
of this long-term oxidation are particularly obvious: gradual degradation of vitamin C, Browning of the juice, deterioration offlavor, and decrease in nutritional value. That is to say, the aluminum-coated PET solution is "sufficient" in the short term, butnot enough to support the long shelf life and high freshness retention requirements of such products.
Option 2:
"Ultra-high Barrier aluminum-coated bag" scheme: PE/VMPET/PE+EVOH/PE five-layer structure with OTR (oxygen transmissionrate) controlled at <0.5 .
This scheme is theoretically sufficient but faces an implicit risk in practical application - the humidity sensitivity of EVOH .
EVOH's humidity sensitivity problem: EVOH (ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer) is currently the mainstream ultra-high barriermaterial, with OTR as low as <0.5. However, the hydroxyl group (-OH) on the EVOH molecular chain is highly hydrophilic andabsorbs moisture in high humidity, causing the movement of the molecular chain segments to intensify and significantlyreducing the barrier performance. Experimental data show that the OTR of EVOH increases by 5 to 10 times under conditionsof relative humidity >80% .
This means:
• The packaging barrier performance of the thorn pear juice and sea buckthorn juice produced during the southern plumseason may be compromised
Products shipped by sea to high-temperature and high-humidity regions such as Southeast Asia have a higher quality risk
• The loss of VC accelerates when cold chain breaks or warehouse humidity gets out of contrl

hip juice in constant barrier film packaging had a clear texture, and the fresh fruit itself had a light golden color that was cleanand bright . The traditional VMPET packaging of the thorn pear juice was affected by oxygen oxidation, and the overall colorwas darker and darker .
The thorn pear is rich in highly active vitamin C and is prone to discoloration when exposed to oxygen. We use ultra-high barrier film as the price benchmark to compare the cost differences per bag of three mainstream packagingfilms for thorn pear juice and sea buckthorn juice, clearly distinguishing the three price brackets:
1. Ultra-high barrier film, as the top-of-the-line ultra-high barrier material on the market, has the maximum oxygen barrierperformance and is the most expensive packaging material among the three, is set as the benchmark for this pricecomparison, suitable for high-end thorn pear juice and sea buckthorn juice products with extremely high requirements for freshness retention period and nutrient retention.
2. The aluminum-coated film is the cheapest of the three, with a cost of about 0.3 yuan cheaper per bag compared to thebenchmark model.
